MassDOT has hired Lynch Comanies to do major resurfacing and related work along Route 16 from the Webster Line to Main Street. The work is expected to start Monday, February 27, 2017 and will conclude in November of 2017. Please expect delays.
This project is being funded by a Federal Highway Grant and overseen by Mass DOT.
Hazard mitigation is the effort to reduce loss of life and property by lessening the impact of natural disasters. Mitigation is not disaster response; its goal is to reduce hazard impacts before a disaster occurs. A mitigation plan identifies natural hazards and the risks they pose to residents, infrastructure, property, and natural resources, and it prioritizes projects, policies, education and procedures for reducing these risks, now and in the future. The Board of Selectmen is looking for a Douglas citizen to serve on the Town Administrator Search Committee. The committee has been charged with advertising for a Town Administrator, collecting and reviewing resumes, interviewing candidates, and recommending viable candidates for the Selectmen’s consideration. Interested residents should fill out a Board/Committee Application form and return it to the Selectmen’s Office before Thursday, February 16th at noon. The Town of Douglas, acting through its Board of Selectmen, and pursuant to MGL Chapter 30B, is requesting proposals for the sale and development of certain real property located at 11 Gleason Court in the Town of Douglas (Assessors Map 163 Parcel 110), and, as may be necessary, Assessors Map 163 Parcel 109, and a portion of 17 Gleason Court (Assessors Map 164 Parcel 13) which is more commonly referred to as the Old Douglas Grammar School and surrounding property, as may be appropriate. Sealed proposals will be received at the: Selectmen's Office Municipal Center 29 Depot Street Douglas, MA 01516 until March 8, 2017 at Noon, at which time and place they will be publicly opened. Copies of the Request for Proposals (RFPs) may be obtained at the Selectmen's Office, Municipal Center between the hours of 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Thursday. They may also be downloaded by going to http://tinyurl.com/BuildingSale All p.roposals require a deposit in the form of a certified check made payable to the "Town of Douglas" in the amount of 10% of the proposed purchase price, or $1,000, whichever is greater. All proposals must be submitted in a sealed envelope or package and submitted to the above address. All proposals must be complete and in compliance with the submission requirements outlined in the Request for Proposals (RFP) document. The sale of this property is subject to Town Meeting Approval. Interested proposers are invited to a walk-through of the property on February 15, 2017 at 2:00 PM. Interested parties are advised that any contents of the building which are evident at the time of viewing may not remain at the time of conveyance. In the event that a potential proposer is not able to attend this site visit or requires additional inspection of the site, other arrangements may be made with the Town Administrator. The Town of Douglas reserves the right to reject any and all proposals that do not meet the requirements set forth in the RFP or that are not in the best interests of the Town.

The Town has received inquiries about used cars for sale around town. Vehicles for sale can only be displayed on property that is licensed with a Class II license unless the vehicle is owned by the land owner or the land owner has an agreement in which he receives compensation. The Zoning Bylaw also limits the number of un-registered cars allowed on property in town. For more information, please see Class II – Selling Second Hand Vehicles on the Selectmen’s page.
The Main Street Flag fund is used to purchase United States flags for Douglas Main Street from Memorial Day through Veteran’s Day.
Check donations can be made to “Main Street Flag Fund”, and mailed to the Selectmen’s Office, 29 Depot Street, Douglas, MA 01516.
All supporters names will be listed in the Town’s Annual Report.
