The Soldiers Monument, located at the Town Common, was dedicated in 1908 to the memory of Unknown Soldiers and Sailors that were lost during the American Revolution, The Civil War and the Spanish American War. The Town Monuments and Memorials Committee rededicated the 3 inch Griffin Rifles that flank the monument on Veterans Day in 2014 with funding from a matching MA Department of Veterans Services grant. Hazard mitigation is the effort to reduce loss of life and property by lessening the impact of natural disasters.  Mitigation is not disaster response; its goal is to reduce hazard impacts before a disaster occurs.  A mitigation plan identifies natural hazards and the risks they pose to residents, infrastructure, property, and natural resources, and it prioritizes projects, policies, education and procedures for reducing these risks, now and in the future.  Click here for more information.
