STATEMENT REGARDING CEDAR STREET

Please disregard any private signs in the vicinity of Cedar Street indicating that the street is (or will be) closed.  This matter is currently in litigation.  Cedar Street will remain open for public travel.  Anyone having questions or concerns regarding this matter should contact the Board of Selectmen’s Office.  Thank you.

The Soldiers Monument, located at the Town Common, was dedicated in 1908 to the memory of Unknown Soldiers and Sailors that were lost during the American Revolution, The Civil War and the Spanish American War. The Town Monuments and Memorials Committee rededicated the 3 inch Griffin Rifles that flank the monument on Veterans Day in 2014 with funding from a matching MA Department of Veterans Services grant. For more information see the Veteran Directors FY14 Annual Report.

News and Announcements

SURPLUS FIREWOOD DRAWING

The Town of Douglas has a surplus of firewood available and will be holding a drawing for current Douglas residents to obtain ½ cord of wood.  There will be a limited number of entry forms randomly selected (based on the amount of firewood available) on Wednesday, October 19, 2016.  If you are selected there will be several pickup dates available for you to remove your share of the wood.  Entry forms will be retained and individuals who are not selected will have opportunities for future surplus wood.

In order to participate in the drawing you must:
• Be a current resident of Douglas and show proof of residency (submit copy of valid driver’s license)
• Sign a liability waiver form
• Be able to load and remove the wood yourself during one of the available dates

Selected residents will be notified by mail of their selection.

Clck here for an Entry and Liability Form, and submit to the Board of Selectmen’s office at the Municipal Center at 29 Depot Street.

HIGHWAY ROAD WORK - SW Main Street

Please be advised that the Highway Department will be grinding and resurfacing S. W. Main Street from Main Street to Wallum Lake Road beginning September 12th.  Road improvements will continue for several weeks.  Please be prepared for travel delays during this time.

SELLING SECOND HAND VEHICLES

The Town has received inquiries about used cars for sale around town.  Vehicles for sale can only be displayed on property that is licensed with a Class II license unless the vehicle is owned by the land owner or the land owner has an agreement in which he receives compensation.  The Zoning Bylaw also limits the number of un-registered cars allowed on property in town.  For more information, please see Class II – Selling Second Hand Vehicles on the Selectmen’s page.

MAIN STREET FLAG FUND

The Main Street Flag fund is used to purchase United States flags for Douglas Main Street from Memorial Day through Veteran’s Day.
Check donations can be made to “Main Street Flag Fund”, and mailed to the Selectmen’s Office, 29 Depot Street, Douglas, MA 01516.

All supporters names will be listed in the Town’s Annual Report.
